Broken garage door spring repair

Springs do the heavy lifting on a garage door, not the opener.

Call a tech(833) 254-1885

$19 service call — that’s the full price of the visit. A local tech comes out, finds the problem and gives you a written price. Parts and labor for the repair are extra, and nothing starts until you approve it. If you say no, you pay $19 and that’s it.

No trip, fuel or after-hours fees. We’ll tell you the arrival window when you call.

Visita a domicilio: $19 en total. El técnico revisa la puerta y le da un precio por escrito antes de trabajar. Si no acepta, solo paga $19.

A torsion spring on the bar above the door, or extension springs along the tracks, carry most of the door’s weight. They wear a little with every open and close, and one day they break, usually with a bang loud enough to sound like something fell. After that the door is dead weight: the opener may hum, lift it a few inches and give up.

We replace broken torsion and extension springs on garage doors in Los Angeles and Ventura County. The technician sizes the new spring to your door, sets the balance so the door doesn’t drop or fly up, and checks the cables and drums the spring works with. On heavy wood doors, and near the coast where rust eats at springs, those checks matter even more.

Signs you need this repair

Safety first

Don’t lift a door with a broken spring, and don’t let anyone else try. Without the spring, the door’s full weight is on your hands and on the cables, and it can slam down. Keep kids, pets and cars clear of the opening. Don’t keep pressing the opener button: it can strip the gears or pull the door off track. Never touch, loosen or adjust springs, cables or the brackets at the bottom corners, because they are under high tension. If the door is closed, leave it closed. Pull the red release cord only when the door is fully closed, never when it’s open or partway up.

What happens on the $19 visit

The $19 service call is the full price of the visit. The technician confirms which spring broke, checks the other spring, the cables, drums and bearings, and gives you a written repair price. Parts and labor for the repair are extra, and nothing starts until you approve it. If you say no, you pay $19 and that’s it. There are no trip, fuel or after-hours fees on top. Call and we’ll tell you the arrival window.

Questions

Can I open the garage door with a broken spring?

Don’t try. The spring is what makes the door liftable. Without it, the door can be too heavy to hold and can drop suddenly. If your car is inside, wait for the technician rather than forcing the door or the opener.

What’s the difference between torsion and extension springs?

A torsion spring sits on a metal bar above the door and twists to lift it. Extension springs run alongside the horizontal tracks and stretch. Both store a lot of energy, and both are a job for a technician.

If one spring broke, should both be replaced?

On doors with two springs, both usually have the same age and wear. The technician will look at the other spring and tell you what they see, and the written price lists exactly what’s included. It’s your call.

Why did my spring break?

Springs are made for a limited number of open-and-close cycles, so age and daily use wear them out. Rust and a door that’s out of balance shorten their life. Near the coast, salt air is a common factor.
